The McIntosh MI347 is a 7-channel digital amplifier for home theatre systems. It uses closed-loop digital switching amplifier circuits with robust power supplies, and is designed to work with McIntosh home theatre AV processors including the MX123, MX170 and rack-mountable MX100.
The 3 front channels, for the front left, front right and centre speakers, deliver 250 Watts at 8 Ohms or 300 Watts at 4 Ohms per channel. These channels handle much of the dialogue and the loudest, most prominent special effects. The 4 remaining channels provide 125 Watts at 8 Ohms or 200 Watts at 4 Ohms per channel for surround sound or ceiling speakers.
As a Class D amplifier, the MI347 does not require cooling fans to maintain its nominal operating temperature. Cooling vents on the top and sides assist with heat dissipation, while multi-colour LED indicators on the front panel show the status of each channel. Each channel has balanced and unbalanced inputs on the rear panel, along with standard 5-way speaker binding posts.
The understated exterior is intended for installation in an out-of-sight AV equipment rack, although the amplifier can also be placed in an open installation. Its rack-friendly 3U height allows straightforward fitting with the included rack mounting brackets. These brackets can be removed for non-rack installations.
For home theatre systems with more than 7 audio channels, including Dolby Atmos or DTS:X configurations, the MI347 can be combined with the rack-mountable McIntosh MI254 4-channel digital amplifier or MI128 8-channel digital amplifier to power the additional speakers.
- Power Guard signal overload technology prevents overdriving and damaging speakers
- Sentry Monitor short-circuit protection disengages the output stage if current approaches unsafe operating levels, then resets automatically when conditions return to normal
- Power Control automatically turns other connected McIntosh components on and off
- Eco-friendly on/off signal sensing switches the unit off after no input signal has been detected for a set amount of time and turns the MI347 on when it detects a signal from the home theatre processor
