M6S PRX

The Musical Fidelity M6S PRX is a 230 watts-per-channel power amplifier with a Choke Regulated Power Supply (CRPS). It uses the same basic circuit topology as the Titan and AMS50 power amplifiers, while the CRPS provides a distinct approach to power-supply regulation.

Its dual-mono circuit is housed in a custom-made, top-grade metal chassis, following the fit and finish of the M6S range. The construction provides a solid enclosure for the amplifier’s internal design.

The CRPS uses a choke, which has high resistance to AC and very low resistance to DC, to reduce power-supply noise. Musical Fidelity was the first manufacturer to use chokes in transistor amplifiers, and the M6S PRX employs a dual bifilar choke system for noise rejection. The power supply also filters and rejects mains noise, helping to protect the amplifier from mains-borne interference.

This power-supply design is intended to provide a quiet background, precise imaging and fine detail recovery. Combined with the 230 watts per channel, the M6S PRX is designed to drive demanding loudspeakers with a neutral presentation, power, pace and dynamic range.

Hi-Fi Choice described the amplifier as having an “aura of unflappable invincibility”, adding that it could be pushed hard without any sense that it was struggling. Hi-Fi+ noted its “effortless quality”, saying that it could make loudspeakers seem bigger and better than they really are.

Two switchable inputs support flexible system installation. The line output sockets allow the Musical Fidelity M6S PRX to be used in bi-amping or tri-amping systems, while the output options and twin inputs accommodate a wide range of configurations. Its intended pre-amplifier partner is the matching model.
