The Pro-Ject Xtension 9 Superpack is a high-end turntable combining mass-loaded and floating turntable design principles. Its high-mass, anti-resonant main chassis is supported by 3 powerful magnetic feet, allowing the turntable to float above the stand on which it sits. This structure reflects decades of Pro-Ject turntable design experience.

The precision-balanced platter is made from a purpose-chosen metal alloy with an internal Thermo-Plastic Elastomer (TPE) lining. Its upper surface is finished with recycled vinyl records, providing a playback platform for the record without requiring an additional mat. Magnetic isolation and an inverted ceramic ball-bearing support the platter, allowing it to run with very low noise.

Integrated speed control supplies the high-grade motor with a clean, regulated power signal and allows straightforward selection of 33 and 45RPM operation.

Fitted as standard, the Pro-Ject 9CC Evolution tonearm has a 9” one-piece conical carbon fibre tube, TPE-damped counterweights and an inverted bearing design. These features support accurate tracking and low resonance, including when used with demanding pick-up cartridges. The SuperPack version includes the Pick-IT DS2 MC moving coil cartridge, developed by Pro-Ject in partnership with Ortofon. It combines Pro-Ject’s turntable experience and use of high-quality materials with Ortofon’s micro-technology knowledge.

The Xtension 9 Superpack includes a removable dust cover, a heavy record puck to improve record hold and a high-quality 5P-RCA output cable.

The interconnect between a record player and a phono stage can pick up noise from household appliances, wi-fi and Bluetooth devices, other power cables and audio amplifiers. Unshielded RCA interconnects can increase this interference and make it audible through the loudspeakers, affecting the musical signal.

Balanced, typically XLR, connections use twice as many wires to carry the musical signal, with one side inverted. Noise picked up by both wires is therefore reversed on one side. When the signals are recombined at the phono stage, the opposing noise signals cancel each other out. This produces a louder, cleaner musical signal with almost no remaining noise.
