Xtension 10 Turntable

The Pro-Ject Xtension 10 Evolution is a high-end turntable combining mass-loaded construction with a floating turntable design. Its thick MDF chassis is filled with metal sand, giving it high mass and resistance to resonance, while 4 powerful magnetic feet suspend the turntable above its supporting stand.

The precision-balanced platter is made from a selected metal alloy and damped internally with Sorbothane^®. Based on the platter used for the RPM 10 Carbon and taken directly from the larger Xtension 12, it has a top surface finished with recycled vinyl records. This provides the record-playing surface without requiring an additional mat. Magnetic suspension and an inverted ceramic ball-bearing support the heavy platter, allowing it to rotate with very low noise.

Integrated speed control supplies the high-grade motor with a regulated power signal and provides electronic selection of 33, 45 and 78RPM. A step function allows the running speed to be adjusted incrementally for precise playback.

The Pro-Ject 10CC Evolution tonearm is fitted before delivery. Its carbon-fibre armtube is designed to direct parasitic vibrations into the heavy, anti-resonant tonearm assembly, supporting accurate cartridge tracking. The tonearm is mounted on a sheet of Sorbothane^® to provide additional isolation from the chassis.

The turntable is supplied with a removable dust cover and a heavy-weight record puck.

True Balanced Connections

The interconnect between a record player and a phono stage can pick up noise from household appliances, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices, other power cables and audio amplifiers. Unshielded RCA interconnects can increase the level of this interference, making it audible through the speakers and affecting the musical signal.

Balanced connections, typically using XLR cables, carry the musical signal on 2 wires, with 1 side inverted. Noise picked up by both wires is reversed on 1 side, so it is cancelled when the signals are recombined at the phono stage. This produces a louder signal with reduced residual noise.
