The McIntosh WS500 is a 3-way in-wall loudspeaker for custom installation, suitable for 2-channel home audio and home theatre systems as a front, centre or surround speaker. It can be used with McIntosh MI128 and MI254 distribution amplifiers, or alongside the WS300 in-wall speaker and CS200 in-ceiling speaker, to which it is voice matched for a cohesive system. In a home theatre, the WS500 can also be used with McIntosh A/V processors and multi-channel amplifiers.
The fully enclosed cabinet incorporates a controlled air chamber to minimise distortion and response irregularities. Its driver complement comprises 2 6.5" woofers, 2 2" inverted Titanium dome midrange drivers and 1 3/4" Titanium dome tweeter. The midrange and tweeter drivers are also used in the McIntosh XR50 and XR100 home audio speakers.
Each woofer uses a shallow design intended for standard 2x4 wall construction, supporting straightforward installation. The long-throw, high-power woofer design has moulded carbon-reinforced cones and moulded elastomeric surrounds for high linearity.
The grille attaches magnetically for removal and can be painted. It is designed to leave little to no visible edge of the mounting flange, allowing the loudspeaker to blend into its surroundings. The WS500 includes the required hardware and mounting mechanisms for post-construction installation. An optional RK500 rough-in kit is available.
