Sopra N2
The Focal Sopra N2 applies NIC and TMD technologies to its midrange drivers, controlling magnetic-field distortion and suspension resonance to maintain definition in a compact 3-way loudspeaker. Its Beryllium tweeter uses the IHL system to absorb the rear wave gradually, supporting clear treble reproduction without compromising the enclosure’s compact form.

The Focal Sopra N°2 3-way high-end loudspeaker combines dynamic performance, space optimisation and harmonic richness in a compact floorstanding enclosure. Its modern design is intended to integrate into reasonably sized rooms, while the structure and driver arrangement are designed around acoustic performance.
Unlike the larger Utopia range, where cabinet size is less of a constraint, Sopra N°2 is designed for maximum compactness. It is suited to rooms measuring up to 320ft2 (30m2) and can also be used in larger rooms measuring up to 750ft2 (70m2).
Stabilising the magnetic field
Neutral Inductance Circuit
NIC technology, or Neutral Inductance Circuit, controls the magnetic field within the speaker drive unit. Magnetic-field stability is central to precision and detail in audio reproduction. By limiting distortion, NIC reduces its effects while supporting high-definition reproduction and dynamic performance.
The midrange suspension
Tuned Mass Damper
TMD technology, or Tuned Mass Damper, addresses resonances in the suspension connecting the cone to the basket. Conventional methods of increasing suspension damping also increase mass, which can affect definition. Developed from technology used in earthquake-resistant skyscrapers and racing-car suspension, TMD optimises the suspension profile to control resonance, reduce distortion and improve bass and midrange definition.
Innovation
The Beryllium tweeter uses a light, rigid dome for transparent and dynamic treble reproduction. Its main limitation is air compression in the cavity behind the dome. Because the Sopra cabinet is compact and uses as much of its volume as possible for bass reproduction, Focal developed the IHL system, or Infinite Horn Loading, as an alternative tweeter-loading method.
IHL preserves the compact cabinet design while loading the Beryllium tweeter. The tweeter’s rear wave is absorbed gradually to reduce distortion and support treble definition.
No sacrifice of performance to aesthetics
The design agency Pineau & Le Porcher developed Sopra around the principle that performance should not be sacrificed for appearance. The design is intended for sound enthusiasts and for integration into elegant interiors. Lacquered and bloodwood finishes are combined with noble materials.
The front has been kept visually tidy, including the areas around the drive units, while also addressing elements that could affect acoustics. Sopra’s structure is arranged around an intermediate section made from injected polyurethane. This allows the upper and lower cabinets to be inclined for Focus Time, the acoustic convergence of the channels.
