The Pro-Ject Signature 12.2 represents the pinnacle of Pro-Ject turntable design, combining substantial mass, precision engineering and carefully controlled resonance for uncompromising analogue playback. Handmade in Europe, it is designed as a true reference turntable for high-performance vinyl systems.
At the heart of the Signature 12.2 is a substantial 10.5kg aluminium platter, which is magnetically decoupled to reduce the load placed on the main bearing. The inverted bearing uses a ceramic ball and plate arrangement, helping minimise friction, mechanical noise and unwanted vibration while maintaining exceptionally smooth rotation.
Drive is provided by Pro-Ject's flywheel belt-drive system, with the motor mounted separately to further reduce vibration reaching the platter. A precision generator controls the motor for accurate 33 and 45rpm playback, delivering excellent speed stability and very low wow and flutter.
The newly developed 12-inch S-shaped aluminium tonearm uses a three-point pivot bearing system designed to combine extremely low friction with increased stability. Improvements to the counterweight and anti-skating systems allow precise cartridge setup, while the longer effective arm length helps reduce tracking error across the record surface.
A heavyweight MDF chassis provides a rigid foundation for the entire turntable, with rounded edges helping reduce unwanted standing waves and resonance. Spring-loaded adjustable feet provide additional isolation from external vibration and allow accurate levelling of the deck.
With its hand-polished metalwork, substantial construction and carefully engineered isolation systems, the Signature 12.2 combines traditional high-end turntable principles with modern manufacturing precision. The result is a highly stable, quiet and revealing source component capable of extracting exceptional levels of detail, scale and musical information from vinyl.
