Scala Utopia Evo
The Focal Scala Utopia Evo brings enhanced emotion and listening pleasure, while its mid-range register helps reveal the artist’s emotions through reduced distortion. Its 3-way floorstanding construction uses TMD suspension and NIC technology, with separate bass and mid-range/treble crossovers for bi-amplification.

The Focal Scala Utopia Evo is a 3-way floorstanding loudspeaker developed from the Utopia III design. The 2017 Utopia III Evo edition retains the original sound architecture while incorporating Focal’s later technical developments, with a focus on reducing harmonic distortion in the mid-range register and reproducing the artist’s emotions.
Scala Utopia Evo uses Focal’s TMD suspension, or Tuned Mass Damping, and NIC, the Neutral Inductance Circuit. TMD provides a linear frequency response between 1 and 4kHz while significantly reducing distortion across this range. The result is a neutral mid-range register. NIC stabilises the magnetic field within the motor system, helping to reduce harmonic distortion and intermodulation through an extremely stable magnetic circuit.
The loudspeaker now supports bi-amplification, with separate connections for the bass and mid-range and treble registers. Its double terminal board allows the sound to be fine-tuned by adjusting the amplification used for each section, according to the desired timbre, power and system configuration. Separate crossovers are also fitted.
The Utopia III Evo range uses cables made in France, with the wire gauge of Scala Utopia Evo’s internal cabling increased by 20% following testing in real conditions. The enclosure contains thicker acoustic wadding in the bass section, providing tighter bass with greater control and precision. Components were selected from established specialist brands and tested in real conditions before being used in the loudspeaker.
Scala Utopia Evo is available in Metallic Blue, Ash Grey and British Racing Green, alongside Black Lacquer and Carrara White. The colours draw on the automotive world, while the Utopia III Evo shape has been retained with a revised modern finish. The front and side panels are lacquered in the same colour, and the baskets and tweeter enclosure use a Graphite Black finish. These details create a consistent appearance across the enclosure and provide a contrast with the available colours.
The Scala retains the installation approach and design of the previous version while incorporating the developments introduced since the launch of Utopia III in 2008. Its construction and crossover arrangement bring together the Utopia III Evo technologies in a floorstanding loudspeaker designed for bi-amplified operation.
