Solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) and Solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) Conductors
Solid conductors prevent electrical interaction between individual strands, a significant source of distortion. Surface quality is important because a conductor guides both the fields within it and the magnetic fields extending beyond it. Perfect-Surface Copper+ is exceptionally smooth and pure, reducing harshness and improving clarity compared with OFHC, OCC, 8N and other premium copper conductors. The high-purity Perfect-Surface Silver further reduces distortion associated with grain boundaries within metal conductors.
Carbon-Based Linearized Noise-Dissipation System (NDS)
AudioQuest’s Linearized Noise-Dissipation System combines multiple shields with a carbon-based linearised resistive network that converts most of this noise into heat. The system is equally effective across a very wide bandwidth rather than only at selected frequencies. Remaining unwanted energy is drained from sensitive amplifier circuits through directionally controlled signal and shield conductors.
ZERO-Tech
The complete way to eliminate characteristic-impedance mismatches between a cable and its connected source and load is for the cable to have no fixed characteristic-impedance value. ZERO-Tech achieves this by removing interaction between the insulation, or dielectric, and the cable conductors, allowing uncompressed current transfer. Transient current remains unrestricted, while RF Noise-Dissipation is linearised consistently across octaves.
RF/ND-Tech (BASS CABLE ONLY)
A cable’s ground leads are integral to signal transmission, but they also act as antennas and can receive induced radio-frequency (RF) noise. This parasitic signal can couple directly into sensitive audio and video circuits. AudioQuest’s RF-on-ground Noise-Dissipation, or RF/ND-Tech, reduces the resulting distortion and signal masking across a wide range of radio frequencies. Its circuit topology uses a common-mode phase-cancelling array to provide linear Noise-Dissipation along the cable’s entire length, as covered by US Patent # 8,988,168.
72v Dielectric-Bias System (DBS) with Level-X RF Noise-Trap
Insulation also acts as a dielectric and a shunt filter. Biasing the dielectric correctly linearises this filter, improving the cable’s ability to dissipate induced noise across a wide bandwidth. The DBS pack’s Level-X Noise-Trap draws RF noise out of the cable, further reducing unwanted behaviour in connected audio circuits.
Directionality
Drawn metal strands and conductors have a non-symmetrical, directional grain structure. AudioQuest controls the resulting RF-impedance variation so that noise is drained away from areas where it could cause distortion. The correct direction is established by listening to every batch of metal conductors used in AudioQuest audio cables. Where applicable, arrows on the connectors indicate the correct direction. On most AQ cable models, these arrows show the direction that optimises metal directionality as part of Noise-Dissipation, as well as the non-symmetrical connection of the shield and GND for full-system performance.
Folk Hero Cold-Welded Terminations
Folk Hero cables are cold-welded to AudioQuest’s highly pure red copper spades or bananas. The bare copper is suspended in a vat of pure silver rather than tumbled in a lower-grade solution. AudioQuest speaker breakouts and plug casings are non-metallic to prevent RF noise being induced into the conductors.
Robin Hood Bi-Wiring
Where possible, separate cables for the treble and bass sections of a speaker can reduce distortion. Bi-wiring keeps the substantial magnetic fields associated with bass energy away from the treble cable, giving higher frequencies a less magnetically disturbed path.
AudioQuest’s RF/ND-Tech, its patented RF-cancelling ground-noise-dissipation system, draws RF energy away from the amplifier output. When implemented correctly, bi-wiring can improve performance for the same or less money. With RF/ND-Tech, the benefit of bi-wiring is increased. Because RF/ND-Tech is highly effective, BASS model cables are intended for 10KHz and below. Do not use a BASS cable full-range or on treble.
Robin Hood BASS cable is suitable for use with Robin Hood ZERO or SILVER ZERO. A Bi-Wire COMBO, with BASS and ZERO cables joined at the amplifier, is usually the most convenient arrangement. For tri-wiring, use BASS cables on the midrange and bass inputs.
Caution: Do not bi-wire with 2 ZERO cables. ZERO cables connected in parallel can create a high-frequency resonant peak, or ringing, which may result in poor sound. Use 1 ZERO cable with 1 BASS cable, whether or not they are joined as a COMBO. The second option is a single ZERO cable with AQ bi-wire jumpers.
