The SPL Phonitor x is a reference-class headphone amplifier and preamplifier designed for listeners who want exceptional transparency, control and flexibility from a high-end headphone system. Built around SPL’s renowned analogue engineering, it combines powerful headphone drive with sophisticated monitoring features and the ability to serve as the control centre of a premium two-channel system.

At the heart of the Phonitor x is SPL’s proprietary VOLTAiR technology, which operates the audio circuitry at an unusually high internal voltage. This provides generous headroom, wide dynamic range and extremely low distortion, allowing the amplifier to remain composed and effortless even with demanding headphones and complex recordings.

One of the Phonitor x’s defining features is the Phonitor Matrix. This analogue crossfeed system is designed to recreate some of the spatial characteristics of listening to loudspeakers, reducing the extreme left-right separation that can occur with conventional headphone playback. The result is a more natural and speaker-like soundstage, with improved depth, image placement and long-term listening comfort.

The amplifier offers excellent compatibility with a wide range of headphones, providing both standard and balanced connection options. Its substantial output capability gives it the authority to drive difficult loads while maintaining fine detail, speed and tonal accuracy.

In addition to its headphone performance, the Phonitor x can also be used as a high-quality analogue preamplifier. This makes it suitable for systems where headphones, power amplifiers and active loudspeakers need to be controlled from a single component.

Sonically, the Phonitor x is designed to be neutral, open and highly resolving. Bass is tight and controlled, the midrange is clear and natural, and the treble remains extended without sounding harsh or exaggerated. The emphasis is on preserving the character of the recording and the connected headphones rather than imposing a strong sonic signature of its own.

With its distinctive SPL styling, substantial build quality and advanced analogue circuitry, the Phonitor x is an excellent choice for serious headphone enthusiasts and professional users looking for reference-level performance with exceptional flexibility.
