Performer M1000

The SPL Performer m1000 is a reference-class mono power amplifier designed to drive even demanding loudspeakers with exceptional authority, control and refinement. Delivering 420 watts into 8 ohms, 750 watts into 4 ohms and up to 1,000 watts into 2 ohms, it combines immense power with the transparency and natural presentation for which SPL’s Professional Fidelity range is known.

At the heart of the Performer m1000 is SPL’s VOLTAiR technology. Its high-voltage audio circuitry provides exceptional headroom and allows the amplifier to handle large dynamic swings without approaching the limits of its operating range. The result is a sound that remains composed, open and effortless even at demanding listening levels.

The m1000 uses a fully analogue Class AB design with separate stages for voltage and power amplification. Each stage has its own negative feedback path, helping to prevent interaction from the loudspeaker reaching the input stage and allowing the amplifier to maintain excellent stability and control.

A substantial linear power supply provides the foundation for its performance. The m1000 uses a 1,375VA toroidal transformer together with 100,000µF of power supply capacitance, providing the reserves required to reproduce demanding bass passages and large-scale dynamic changes with confidence.

Sonically, the Performer m1000 combines tremendous power with impressive delicacy. Bass is deep, fast and tightly controlled, while the midrange remains transparent and naturally expressive. High frequencies are clean and extended, allowing fine detail to emerge without making the presentation sound aggressive or overly analytical.

A damping factor greater than 280 contributes to excellent loudspeaker control, particularly at low frequencies, while its wide 10Hz to 80kHz frequency response allows the amplifier to reproduce music with a strong sense of openness and scale.

Balanced XLR connectivity is provided, together with a direct THRU output that allows another power amplifier to be connected for bi-amping applications. Input sensitivity can also be adjusted in precise 0.5dB steps from 0 to -5.5dB, providing useful flexibility when matching amplifiers or compensating for differences between loudspeakers.

Comprehensive protection circuitry monitors both DC voltage and operating temperature, while substantial passive heatsinks dissipate the majority of generated heat. Processor-controlled internal fans provide additional cooling when required while remaining extremely quiet during operation.

Built in Germany and weighing almost 25kg, the SPL Performer m1000 combines serious engineering, enormous power reserves and understated industrial design. Used as a pair, these mono amplifiers provide an exceptionally capable foundation for a reference two-channel system, delivering the scale and authority required by demanding loudspeakers while preserving the detail, transparency and musical character of the recording.
