McIntosh

MT2

The McIntosh MT2 centres on a belt-driven, dynamically balanced POM platter that resists and absorbs external vibration while its mass supports stable playback speed. Factory-preset tracking force, anti-skate, cartridge overhang and arm height simplify setup, allowing 33.3 rpm and 45 rpm records to be played with low-noise, accurate reproduction.

The McIntosh MT2 is a belt-drive precision turntable for playing 33-1/3 and 45 rpm vinyl records. It is supplied with a factory-set tracking force, anti-skate force, cartridge overhang and tonearm height, leaving only simple setup steps before use. A subtle green glow is emitted beneath the platter and around the outer edges of the plinth.

The moving coil cartridge has a high output that makes it compatible with both moving coil and moving magnet phono inputs. Its high impedance and high output voltage support noise-free reproduction. The cartridge uses an alloy cantilever and elliptical diamond stylus. The tonearm is made from dural-aluminium with damping materials, combining low weight with high rigidity. Its vertical bearings use 2 precision ceramic surfaces with damping fluid, while the horizontal bearing is a gimballed sapphire design.

The outer platter is belt driven and made from dynamically balanced polyoxymethylene (POM). It is over 1 inch thick, with the mass helping to resist and absorb external vibration and provide flywheel action for stable playback speed. The inner platter is CNC-precision milled aluminium. Both platters rotate on a polished and tempered steel shaft running in a sintered bronze bushing.

The DC motor is powered by an external voltage-stabilised power supply and completely decoupled from the chassis to isolate the record from mechanical interference. The plinth has a resonance-optimised, highly compressed wood base with a black lacquer finish, while the top and middle acrylic plates help absorb unwanted vibration. A clear, contoured dust cover is included.

The McIntosh MT2 can be used with McIntosh phono preamplifiers, stereo preamplifiers, integrated amplifiers and home theatre processors equipped with phono inputs. It is also compatible with McIntosh amplifiers and speakers for a complete audio system.
