The McIntosh MI502 is a 2-channel power amplifier for home cinema, distributed audio and custom installation systems. It can power the front left and right speakers in a home theatre, drive 2 in-wall subwoofers, or run a pair of outdoor speakers. A pair of MI502 amplifiers can power the 3 front channels of an in-home cinema and 1 subwoofer, while multiple units can be stacked to supply distributed audio speakers throughout a home.
Using closed-loop digital switching amplifiers and resilient power supplies, the Class D McIntosh MI502 delivers 500 Watts into 8 Ohm speakers or 800 Watts into 4 Ohm speakers. Its efficient design does not require cooling fans to maintain nominal operating temperature.
The amplifier is rack mountable with a 2U mounting height. Included mounting brackets simplify installation in an equipment rack, and can be removed for non-rack installations. The front panel has 2 blue McIntosh Watt Meters, which show the power output of each channel, alongside multi-colour LED indicators for channel status. Its black glass panel, illuminated McIntosh logo, silver trim and familiar McIntosh form factor continue the brand's established design language.
On the rear panel, balanced and unbalanced inputs connect the MI502 to a preamplifier. A pair of standard 5-way speaker binding posts connects to your speakers.
Protection and control features include:
- Power Guard® signal overload technology that prevents overdriving the speakers
- Sentry Monitor™ short-circuit protection circuit that disengages the output stage before current exceeds safe operating levels, then resets automatically when operating conditions return to normal
- Power Control 12 Volt triggering capabilities
- Eco-friendly on/off signal sensing that turns the unit off if no input signal has been detected for a set amount of time, or automatically turns the amplifier on when it senses a signal
