The McIntosh MDA200 is a digital-to-analogue converter with the McIntosh DA2 Digital Audio Module at its core. The DA2 provides 7 digital audio inputs: 2 coaxial, 2 optical, 1 USB, 1 MCT for use with McIntosh MCT series SACD/CD transports, and 1 audio-only HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC) connection.
Its Quad Balanced, 8-channel, 32-bit digital-to-analogue converter supports high-resolution digital audio playback, with improved dynamic range and total harmonic distortion. The USB input supports native playback up to DSD512 and DXD up to 384kHz. The coaxial and optical inputs decode digital music up to 24-bit/192kHz.
The HDMI ARC input connects a compatible television to a home stereo system. Dolby and DTS multi-channel audio formats are supported and converted to 2-channel audio for playback through the system.
The DA2 has Roon Tested designation from Roon Labs. McIntosh has provided equipment to Roon for testing with a range of operating systems and computers, as well as information about its design and capabilities, making the module suitable for use with an extensive digital music library.
The Digital Audio Module can be replaced with a newer module if one is introduced in the future. This allows the MDA200 to accommodate changes in digital music formats and technologies over time.
For connection to a preamplifier or integrated amplifier, the McIntosh MDA200 has a pair of balanced analogue outputs and a pair of unbalanced analogue outputs. It is supplied from the factory in fixed output mode, with the option to select variable output mode. In a system using digital audio sources only, the MDA200 can connect directly to a power amplifier without a separate preamplifier. Volume can then be adjusted using the front-panel ADJUST knob or the supplied remote control.
The front panel uses a black glass faceplate with an illuminated logo, rotary control knobs, custom-machined aluminium end caps and an easy-to-read display with adjustable brightness settings. The rear panel includes Power Control and data ports.
