The McIntosh MC312 is a 300 Watt per channel stereo power amplifier designed to drive a wide range of home audio systems. Its Autoformer technology delivers the full 300 Watts to speakers with 2, 4 or 8 Ohm impedance.
Compared with the previous 300 Watt McIntosh stereo amplifier, the MC312 has twice the filter capacity. This increases dynamic headroom by 27%, from 1.8dB to 2.3dB, helping the amplifier handle wide dynamic swings in music. The increased filter capacity also benefits distortion prevention and bass performance.
The MC312 retains McIntosh's established design while adding several updates. Direct LED backlighting illuminates the front panel with improved colour accuracy. The audio output Autoformers continue to sit either side of the power transformer, but are now housed in new enclosures beneath a single cover with glass inserts displaying each transformer's wiring diagram. Other changes include Monogrammed Heatsinks and an eco-friendly power management system, along with upgraded circuit components and internal wiring.
Balanced and unbalanced outputs support bi-amping or tri-amping. They can also connect to a secondary system when a preamplifier does not have enough connections, or to a powered subwoofer.
