The McIntosh MC2301 is a monoblock tube amplifier with a 300 Watt output at 8, 4 or 2 ohms, providing the power required by difficult-to-drive loudspeakers. Its design combines McIntosh Unity Coupled and Quad-Differential circuit topologies. The Unity Coupled Circuit is used to provide wide power bandwidth and low distortion, while Quad-Differential circuitry cancels nearly all induced noise and circuit-borne nonlinearities for very low noise levels in a tube amplifier. This combination is intended to preserve a lifelike, dynamic presentation across demanding material, from massed chorale to rock and roll.
The MC2301 uses a balanced design with multifilar wound output transformers, low distortion from 20Hz to 20kHz, and 2 balanced inputs and outputs. Large gold-plated five-way binding posts provide the speaker connections. Remote power control includes meter light control, while the thick glass front panel incorporates a tube view and fibre optic light diffuser illumination.
