Maximum Supertweeters

The Townshend Maximum Supertweeters are add-on high-frequency speakers designed to extend the response of conventional hi-fi speakers up to 90kHz. Although this lies above the theoretical limit of human hearing, the additional frequencies are intended to increase the sense of naturalness and reveal detail extending into the bass.

Operating from 6kHz upwards, the Maximum Supertweeter uses an ultra-light ribbon diaphragm with a faster response than a relatively heavy dome assembly. This allows it to reproduce the leading edge of transients with less time smear, giving the system a more relaxed and natural presentation through greater speed and accuracy.

The design works with both digital and analogue formats, revealing high-frequency detail above 6kHz. Although a CD cannot produce information above 20kHz, the Maximum Supertweeters are intended to make CD playback sound more natural and to reveal additional detail compared with dome tweeters. The extended response can also expose harmonic information across the audio band, including detail in the bass.

Townshend Maximum Supertweeters are engineered to integrate with all high quality speakers. Connection is made using the supplied 1.5m link cables, with the Supertweeters wired in parallel with the main amplifier feed or the tweeter connection at the main speaker. A 6-position level switch allows the output to be integrated with the main speakers.
