The Sonus Faber Maxima Amator is a 2-way loudspeaker based on one of the defining design approaches in Sonus faber products. The 2-way configuration is widely regarded by hi-fi enthusiasts as one of the purest loudspeaker systems achievable, and this model was developed around the successful integration of 2 drivers to pursue a natural sound and the brand’s ‘Voice of Sonus faber’.
Its large solid-wood cabinet required detailed study and adjustment because wood continues to change over time, creating a risk of deformation or breakage as it ages. Sonus faber addressed this through modern wood-drying methods, internal structural ribs secured with flexible glues, and new CNC techniques that maintain tighter tolerances than earlier methods.
Once the cabinet design and driver selection had been established, the focus turned to the project’s tonal balance. The result is the IFF crossover, or Interactive Fusion Filtering, which forms the central part of the Maxima Amator. It brings the 2 drivers together beyond the company’s established classic implementations, aiming for a natural and fluid reproduction.
