Bergmann

Magne

The Bergmann Magne uses a fully air-bearing turntable with a platter centred by a spindle and a linear-tracking air-bearing tonearm. Its air supply uses condensate and dust filters with reservoirs to deliver clean, dry, even airflow, while the oil-free pump operates quietly enough for placement in the listening room.

The Magne is a fully air-bearing turntable system with a linear-tracking air-bearing tonearm.

The platter, centred by a spindle, floats on a film of air. The Magne turntable system is straightforward to adjust and operate. The air supply is equipped with condensate and dust filters, together with reservoirs that provide a dry, clean and smooth airflow. It operates quietly enough to be placed in the listening room.

Magne turntable system

Magne means “strength”. In Nordic mythology, Magne is the son of Thor, the God of Thunder. At 3 days old, he is strong enough to lift a dead giant from his father, who is pinned underneath. Magne is one of the few Gods to survive Ragnarok, the Nordic Armageddon, and helps rebuild the new world.

Air supply

The air pump must deliver an even, clean and dry airflow.

Impulses from the pump are absorbed in an encapsulated reservoir, providing an even airflow to the air bearing and tonearm. The air supply includes a filter that prevents dust particles from entering the system. This filter can be replaced when necessary.

The pump is an oil-free, long-life unit that requires little maintenance.

Linear-tracking air-bearing tonearm

The tonearm follows a simple design approach, with as few parts and assemblies as possible to avoid resonances. The armtube uses the established Bergmann construction, formed from 2 tubes with damping between them. All parts are assembled with 2-component epoxy, creating a simple, vibration-free design for pure and coherent reproduction.

As with other Bergmann tonearms, the tonearm wire runs in 1 continuous length from the cartridge clips to the connector.

These minimal design features support signal transmission from the stylus tip to the phono stage, producing a transparent and spacious soundstage with accurate timbre and musical information.

The counterweight is decoupled from the arm to avoid resonances.

The tangential tonearm is also straightforward to set up.
