Maestro Utopia Evo
The Focal Maestro Utopia Evo, a three-way floorstanding loudspeaker, delivers consistent bass while retaining the dynamic range and punch associated with the Maestro design. Its TMD suspension and NIC magnetic circuit reduce distortion through the mid-range, while bi-amplification allows separate adjustment of the bass and mid-range/treble registers.

The Focal Maestro Utopia Evo is a 3-way floorstanding loudspeaker designed for greater versatility and easier installation in a listening room. Its bass remains consistent while retaining the dynamic range and punch associated with the Maestro, and the mid-range incorporates Focal’s latest technical developments. Each register has been developed for greater precision and dynamic range.
Introduced as part of the 2017 edition of Utopia III Evo, the Maestro Utopia Evo incorporates developments made since the launch of Utopia III in 2008. The sound architecture of Utopia III has been retained, with particular attention given to reducing harmonic distortion in the mid-range register. The 2 loudspeakers use Focal’s NIC, or Neutral Inductance Circuit, and TMD, or Tuned Mass Damping, suspension.
Maestro Utopia Evo supports bi-amplification, with separate connections for the bass and mid-range/treble registers. A double terminal board allows the registers to be driven separately, giving listeners the option to fine-tune the sound according to the required timbre, power and sound architecture. Separate crossovers are also used in the design.
The Utopia III Evo range incorporates cables made in France, denser acoustic materials inside the subwoofer, double terminal boards and separate crossovers. Focal’s engineers selected the internal components after testing them in real conditions. All internal wiring within the units is crafted in France, and the wire gauge has been increased by 20%. The acoustic wadding inside the enclosure has also been thickened to provide tighter bass with more control and precision.
Mid-range technologies
The mid-range section uses research first developed in 2008. TMD suspension provides a linear frequency response between 1 and 4 kHz while reducing distortion across this range, giving the mid-range a neutral response.
Focal’s Neutral Inductance Circuit stabilises the magnetic field in order to reduce harmonic distortion and intermodulation. This research resulted in a highly stable magnetic circuit.
Finishes
Maestro Utopia Evo is available in Metallic Blue, Ash Grey and British Racing Green, alongside Black Lacquer and Carrara White. The shape of Utopia III Evo is retained with a modernised finish. The enclosure is lacquered in a single colour throughout, with identical front and side panels.
The baskets and tweeter enclosure are finished in Graphite Black. These detailing choices provide a consistent appearance across the loudspeaker while keeping the focus on the available colour finishes.
