Lumina V Amator

The Sonus faber Lumina V Amator is a 3-way floorstanding loudspeaker and the flagship model in the Lumina collection. Sonus faber introduced the collection in September 2020, with the 2-way bookshelf Lumina I, the 3-way floorstanding Lumina III and the 2-way centre-channel Lumina CI. The range was developed for modern lifestyles and different listening environments, including multichannel systems and multimedia applications.

The project continued in 2021 with the 2-way shelf loudspeaker Lumina II and the 3-way floorstanding Lumina V. These models extended the collection towards larger environments, with higher power and attention to price point. Lumina II Amator and Lumina V Amator add revised styling and crossover technology to the range. The name Amator has been used for Sonus faber special models and denotes their distinct position within the catalogue.

Both Amator models use a simple, square enclosure design intended to show the materials clearly. The bookshelf and floorstanding speakers are Made in Italy and feature new wood front panels with a glossy finish and 45° angle wood veneer. Lumina V Amator is available in the following finishes:

The loudspeaker uses Sonus faber’s D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) tweeter, also used in the Sonetto series. It has a 29mm Kurtmueller hand-coated soft silk diaphragm. The 4” midwoofer was developed for the Lumina collection and combines a custom-made basket with a cellulose pulp diaphragm blended with other natural fibres.

Lumina V Amator also incorporates a 5” midrange based on the Sonetto design, with Sonus faber’s proprietary natural fibre and paper blend air-dried diaphragm, together with 5” woofers developed specifically for the collection. These use paper pulp cones to maintain coherence between the drivers.

The Lumina design allows the speakers to be used in different positions, including close to a back wall or on a bookshelf. The Lumina Amator models improve sensitivity and performance through revised crossover components. The Lumina V Amator crossover operates at up to 2850 Hz, a difference of +250 Hz compared with the Lumina V.

The crossover design draws on development work for the Homage collection, with solutions derived from the Amati 5 and Guarneri G5. These include IFF circuitry and a phase-coherent approach intended to reproduce a 3-dimensional virtual soundstage. The revised filters provide greater resolution and more rigorous, coherent reproduction.
