Kanta N3

The Focal Kanta N3 is a 3-way floor standing Hi-Fi loudspeaker designed for large rooms from 430 to 860 ft² (40 to 80 m²). It is the reference product in the Kanta line, combining bass depth, impact and articulation with a defined, neutral midrange and a detailed treble response. The next generation IAL3 tweeter uses pure Beryllium to reproduce fine detail with precision, while the overall presentation is warm and musical.

Focal’s Kanta design combines Beryllium in the IAL3 tweeter with Flax sandwich cones for the midrange and bass drivers. This combination was developed over 3 years of research and brings together the low mass, rigidity and damping properties of Flax with the characteristics of Beryllium. The patented Flax membrane is made in France and has also been used in Focal home and in-car speakers.

The midrange driver uses TMD (Tuned Mass Damping) suspension. Every Kanta driver also incorporates an NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit), which stabilises the magnetic field for defined sound and controlled bass.

Cabinet-work

The baffle and shell are designed around acoustic performance, with softened angles, double vents and materials chosen for density and stiffness. The baffle is moulded as a single piece from high density polymer (HDP), a material that is 70% denser than MDF, 15% stiffer and provides 25% more damping. Its one-piece construction eliminates sound diffraction.

Kanta incorporates Power Flow technology, with vents on the front and rear faces to limit bass compression. The rear shell is made from one-piece integrally moulded wood, while the Zamac base provides stability from a small footprint. Spikes and cups are supplied as part of the base.

New tweeter

Focal’s IAL3 tweeter combines the principles of IAL (Infinite Acoustic Loading) and IHL (Infinite Horn Loading). Both technologies assist with wave absorption, allowing the tweeter frequency to be lowered and helping to reduce distortion in the treble register.

Style

Focus Time alignment corrects the positioning of the drivers so that they are the same distance from the listener’s ear. The top is covered with glass, and the grille attaches magnetically. Removing the grille exposes the Flax cones. The front panel is available in gloss or matt finishes, with 8 possible combinations.

Finishes

The back cover is available in High Gloss black lacquer or Walnut veneer. The High Gloss black shell can be combined with 4 baffle finishes: High Gloss Carrara White, Gauloise Blue, Solar Yellow and Black Lacquer. The wood finish shell is available with 4 matt baffle colours: Ivory, Warm Taupe, Gauloise Blue and Dark Grey.

These finish combinations give the Focal Kanta N3 a modern appearance while retaining the cabinet materials and driver technologies developed for its acoustic performance.
