The EAR Yoshino HP4 is a valve headphone amplifier developed for studio use and designed to drive high or low impedance dynamic headphones. Its output stage uses 6SL7 valves matched to the load through Tim de Paravicini’s transformers, delivering nearly 1W of low-distortion power. The circuit operates in de Paravicini’s Enhanced Triode Mode, also used in the V20 and 859 integrated amplifiers.
The input is transformer coupled, allowing the HP4 to accept balanced or unbalanced signals from a preamplifier. It has its own high-quality volume control and a panel-mounted power switch. Input signals can be switched independently through to a power amplifier for headphone and/or loudspeaker listening.
Five line inputs are provided, together with a genuine tape monitoring circuit, giving 6 inputs in total. Input and output terminals are gold plated. Valve life is in excess of 10,000 hours, reflecting EAR’s focus on reliability. The HP4 is intended for the highest quality dynamic headphones and can drive any headphones with 1 watt of power using its enhanced triode-mode circuitry.
