Grande Utopia EM Evo

The Focal Grande Utopia EM Evo is a 4-way floorstanding loudspeaker from the Utopia III Evo line. Its sound architecture is retained to reduce harmonic distortion in the mid-range register, supporting the reproduction of the artist’s emotions. Grande Utopia EM Evo incorporates Focal’s NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit) and TMD suspension technologies, while the crossover system for the new speaker drivers has been redesigned.

The cabinet has been stiffened with reinforcement rings positioned around the speaker drivers. Other changes include cables manufactured in France, denser acoustic material inside the subwoofer and double terminal boards. The Utopia III Evo line combines these developments with revised detailing and new finishes.

Components tested in real conditions

Focal’s engineers selected components from specialist brands and tested them in real conditions. The internal wiring is crafted in France, and the wire gauge has been increased by 20%. This gives a clearer and more natural sound. For the bass register, the acoustic wadding inside the enclosure has been thickened to provide tighter bass with greater control and precision.

Exclusive medium register

Research carried out in 2008 led to new developments for the mid-range register. TMD suspension provides a linear frequency response curve between 1 and 4kHz while significantly reducing distortion in this range, giving the mid-range register a neutral response.

The Neutral Inductance Circuit stabilises the magnetic field in order to avoid harmonic distortion and intermodulation. Focal’s research resulted in an extremely stable magnetic circuit.

Metallic colours

Focal Grande Utopia EM Evo is available in Metallic Blue, Ash Grey and British Racing Green, alongside Black Lacquer and Carrara White. The Utopia III Evo shape is retained with a revised, modern style.

The enclosure is lacquered in one colour throughout, with identical front and side panels. The baskets and tweeter enclosure have a Graphite Black finish. These details create a consistent appearance while placing emphasis on the available colours.

Focus Time

Each speaker driver module is separate, with the multiple enclosures of the Utopia III Evo and Grande Utopia EM Evo articulated like a spine. A lever allows the modules to be orientated. This adjustable Focus Time function lets you fine-tune the sound image to suit your interior.
