Its custom SXT-03 crystal oscillator, 128-step heater control and 3 independent power supplies support a pure 10MHz sine-wave output through the Esoteric-HCLD buffer circuit.

The Esoteric G-05 is a 10 MHz master clock generator for digital audio equipment, with 4 sine wave clock outputs for connection to up to 4 digital devices.

The G-05 uses Esoteric’s in-house Master Sound Discrete Clock, developed from the crystal oscillator through to the temperature control circuit and control program. Esoteric designed the crystal oscillator circuit as a discrete circuit rather than using a general-purpose module, with the aim of producing tones closer to the engineers’ ideals. The clock module is dedicated to music reproduction, with each part of its design developed to support the quality of musical expression.

Esoteric SXT-03 Custom Crystal Oscillator

The Esoteric SXT-03 is a large custom crystal oscillator selected for its electro-physical properties. Crystal clocks offer natural timbre, low phase noise and stability when used with advanced temperature control systems, while the physical properties of the crystal have a strong relationship with the resulting sound quality. A larger crystal provides greater self-oscillation and oscillation margin, helping maintain stable oscillation even when circuit resistance is higher.

The raw crystal material is grown slowly over a long period before being SC-cut, or Stress Compensated Cut, for its temperature characteristics. Esoteric examines the manufacturing process in detail and selects crystals whose centre-frequency fluctuations remain strictly within specification.

Master Sound TC, Esoteric’s Proprietary Temperature Control Program

Temperature affects crystal frequency accuracy, making temperature control central to maintaining clock accuracy. Master Sound TC is Esoteric’s complete temperature control system, with both the hardware and control software developed in-house. Unlike a typical OCXO, where the crystal is kept at a constant temperature inside a hot oven, the G-05 uses a program customised for each crystal. The oven temperature is set to the point at which that individual crystal operates most stably, producing a natural and pure clock output with strong musical performance.

128-Step Multi-Step Controlled Heater to Maintain Uniform Oven Temperature

The oven heater uses 128-step multi-step control to maintain a uniform internal temperature. Ordinary modules generally switch their heaters on and off as the oven temperature falls and rises. In the Master Sound Discrete Clock, finer control minimises the current fluctuations caused by heater switching, reducing their adverse effect on the crystal oscillator circuit.

Three Independent Power Supply Units for Superior Musical Performance

Where OCXO modules typically use a single power supply, the G-05 separates the oscillator circuit, heater and control circuit, and buffer amplifier. Each circuit block receives its optimum voltage directly from an independent power supply section.

Esoteric-HCLD Output Buffer Circuit

The output stage uses Esoteric’s HCLD buffer amplifier circuit, also found in the Grandioso C1X preamplifier. Its high current transfer capability and 180MHz wide frequency response provide connected digital players with a pure 10MHz sine wave clock signal.

Four 10 MHz sine wave clock outputs allow the G-05 to supply clock signals to up to 4 digital devices.

Custom Designed Coaxial Cables with MIL-standard SMA connectors

Custom coaxial cables are used for the critical internal wiring and selected for their sound quality. The connectors are gold-plated SMA types that comply with MIL standards. At the outputs, gold-plated BNC connectors use precisely matched 50Ω impedance to improve transmission reliability and reduce loss.
