The AudioQuest FireBird Constant Current (Source) is an AC power cable designed for audio and video source components with a constant or fixed current draw.

Solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) and Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) Conductors

FireBird uses solid PSS and PSC+ conductors to prevent electrical strand-to-strand interaction, a significant source of distortion. Conductor surface quality is important because the conductor acts as a guide for the fields within it and for the magnetic fields extending beyond it. The PSS and PSC+ conductors are carefully sized so that FireBird’s performance is close to an all-PSS Silver design, at a lower cost.

ZERO-Tech

FireBird/High (Variable) Current has a current capacity of 20 amps RMS @ 125VAC 50/60Hz and 16 amps RMS @ 220-240VAC 50/60Hz. It can withstand current transient peaks many times its continuous average RMS rating. This makes the FireBird/High (Variable) Current design suitable for AC power conditioners, power regenerators, AC isolation transformers and AC battery back-up devices, as well as power amplifiers, powered subwoofers, powered loudspeakers, powered receivers and integrated amplifiers.

RF/ND-Tech

AC ground wires can protect against an electrical short circuit, but they can also act as antennas and become subject to induced radio-frequency noise. This RF noise can bypass component power supplies and couple directly into sensitive audio and video circuits. AudioQuest’s RF/ND-Tech reduces this distortion across a wide range of radio frequencies. Its circuit topology combines a common-mode phase-cancelling array with proprietary dielectric materials that provide additional differential linear filtering. US Patent # 8,988,168.

72v Dielectric-Bias System (DBS)

Insulation also acts as a dielectric and can function as a shunt filter. The 72v Dielectric-Bias System reduces dielectric noise and linearises the filter, improving wide-bandwidth dissipation of induced RF noise.

Directionality

All drawn metal strands and conductors have a non-symmetrical grain structure, which gives them a directional characteristic. AudioQuest controls the resulting RF impedance variation so that noise is drained away from areas where it could cause distortion. The correct direction is determined by listening to each batch of metal conductors used in AudioQuest audio cables. Where applicable, arrows are marked on the connectors. On most AudioQuest cable models, the arrows indicate the direction that optimises metal directionality as part of Noise-Dissipation, as well as the non-symmetrical attachment of the shield and ground for full-system performance.
