Firebird BASS 3m

The AudioQuest Firebird BASS 3m, a bass and midrange loudspeaker cable, uses PSS and PSC+ solid conductors with ZERO-Tech for uncompressed current transfer, while RF/ND-Tech and the 72v Dielectric-Bias System reduce unwanted radio-frequency energy. Intended for 10KHz and below, it works with FireBird ZERO on the treble input.

Solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) and Solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) Conductors
Solid conductors prevent electrical strand-to-strand interaction, a significant source of distortion. Surface quality is important because a conductor guides the fields within it and the magnetic fields extending outside it. The smooth, pure surface of AudioQuest’s Perfect-Surface metals reduces harshness and improves clarity compared with lesser materials. The carefully selected PSS and PSC+ conductor sizes give FireBird performance close to an all-PSS Silver cable, at a lower cost.

Carbon-Based Linearized Noise-Dissipation System (NDS)
AQ’s Linearized Noise-Dissipation System combines multiple shields with a carbon-based linearised resistive network that converts most noise into heat. The system is effective across an extremely wide bandwidth rather than only at selected frequencies. The remaining unwanted energy is drained from sensitive amplifier circuits through directionally controlled signal and shield conductors.

ZERO-Tech
The complete way to eliminate characteristic-impedance mismatches between a cable and its source and load is for the cable to have no fixed characteristic-impedance value. ZERO-Tech achieves this by removing interaction between the insulation, or dielectric, and the cable’s conductors, allowing uncompressed current transfer. Transient current remains unrestricted, while RF Noise-Dissipation is linearised consistently from octave to octave.

RF/ND-Tech
A cable’s ground leads are part of a component’s signal transmission, but they can also act as antennas and pick up Radio-Frequency (RF) noise. This parasitic signal is typically coupled directly into a system’s most sensitive audio and video circuits. AudioQuest’s RF-on-ground Noise-Dissipation, or RF/ND-Tech, reduces the resulting distortion and signal masking, providing Noise-Dissipation across a wide range of radio frequencies. Its circuit topology uses a common-mode phase-cancelling array for linear Noise-Dissipation along the cable’s entire length (US Patent # 8,988,168).

72v Dielectric-Bias System (DBS) with Level-X RF Noise-Trap
Insulation also acts as a dielectric and a shunt-filter. Biasing the dielectric correctly linearises the filter and improves the cable’s ability to dissipate induced noise across a wide bandwidth. The DBS pack’s Level-X Noise-Trap draws RF Noise out of the cable, further reducing unwanted behaviour in connected audio circuits.

Mythical Creature Cold-Welded Terminations
Mythical Creature cables are cold-welded to AudioQuest’s highly pure Red Copper Spades or Bananas. The bare copper is suspended in a vat of pure silver rather than tumbled in a lower-grade solution. AudioQuest speaker breakouts and plug casings are non-metallic to avoid introducing RF Noise into the conductors.

FireBird Bi-Wiring
Where possible, using separate cables for the treble and bass halves of a speaker reduces distortion. Bi-Wiring keeps the large magnetic fields produced by bass energy away from the treble cable, giving delicate upper frequencies a less magnetically disturbed path.

AudioQuest’s RF/ND-Tech, its patented RF-Cancelling Ground-Noise-Dissipation system, draws RF energy away from the amplifier’s output. Properly implemented, Bi-Wiring has long been a cost-effective way to improve performance for the same or less money. With RF/ND-Tech, the benefit is greater. BASS model cables are intended for 10KHz and below. Do not use a BASS cable full-range or for treble.

FireBird BASS cable is intended for use with FireBird ZERO. A Bi-Wire COMBO with BASS and ZERO cables joined at the amplifier is usually the most convenient arrangement. For Tri-Wiring, use BASS cables on the Midrange and Bass inputs.

Caution: Do not Bi-Wire with 2 ZERO cables. ZERO cables connected in parallel can create a very high-frequency resonant peak, or ringing, resulting in poor sound. Use 1 ZERO with 1 BASS cable, whether or not they are joined as a COMBO. The next option is a single ZERO with AQ Bi-Wire jumpers.
