F500SP

The Fyne Audio F500SP is a UK-built stand-mount loudspeaker and the smallest model in the F500 SP Special Production range. Developed from the F500 Series, it combines the F500 cabinet design with technology derived from the F700 Series, including a 6” (150mm) Special Production IsoFlare driver, a tuned crossover and the BassTrax port system. The F500 SP range is hand built and finished at Fyne Audio’s factory in Glasgow, UK.

The SP IsoFlare driver uses a centrally positioned 25mm magnesium diaphragm compression tweeter, a powerful neodymium motor and a vented rear chamber that places fundamental resonance below the crossover point. Its waveguide has been computer modelled for controlled wavefront expansion and a flat frequency response to the 30kHz design parameters. Heat is dissipated through a metal pole piece to support a consistent high-frequency response during extended high-volume listening.

A bespoke multi-fibre cone provides stiffness for low-frequency transients and a natural response through the midband. The low-frequency motor system is mounted in a rigid cast aluminium chassis and includes a separate flux-focusing magnet to improve low-frequency efficiency and maintain a flat response through the bass. A FyneFlute roll surround controls unwanted cone energy at the termination, compared with a typical rounded-profile surround.

The 6” (150mm) driver operates as a point-source unit, providing full-range reproduction with isotropic radiation and a response extending beyond 30kHz. The SP IsoFlare design is also available in an 8” (200mm) variant across the F500 SP range, with both sizes incorporating technology developed for the F700 models.

BASSTRAX™ PORT SYSTEM

Fyne Audio’s BassTrax Tractrix bass porting system is used in all 3 SP models. A tuned downward-firing port directs energy towards a Tractrix-profile diffuser cone, which converts the plain-wave port output into a spherical 360-degree wavefront. The wavefront exits uniformly through the plinth, distributing low-frequency energy into the room and making positioning less critical. The system is also used in larger formats in the F700 and F1 Series.

CROSSOVER

The crossover uses architecture and components derived from the F700 loudspeakers. Low-loss laminated-core inductors, high-grade polypropylene capacitors and Van Den Hul Matched Crystal silver-plated OFC wiring are used for signal transmission, with final crossover and component tuning undertaken by Dr Paul Mills. A bi-wire terminal panel is fitted, including a fifth terminal for grounding the driver chassis and reducing radio-frequency interference carried through the amplifier or cables.

PLINTH

The F500SP incorporates an anodised aluminium plinth, while the floorstanding models in the F500 SP range use a twin-layer metal plinth machined from thick aluminium plates. The 2 sections are separated by aluminium spacers for integration with the BassTrax porting system. On the floorstanding models, integrated floor spikes are adjusted from the top of the plinth, with knurled lock nuts to secure them. Machined aluminium cups are supplied to protect wooden floors.

The cabinet follows the conventional parallel-sided F500 design and is available with a deep gloss walnut veneer finish, including a piano gloss lacquered walnut veneer option across the F500 SP models. The F500SP also features diamond-cut aluminium driver trim.

SPECIAL PRODUCTION ISOFLARE

The Special Production IsoFlare drivers are direct derivatives of the point-source units developed for the F700 Series. They combine a multi-fibre low-frequency cone, FyneFlute roll surround and high-powered compression tweeter with a neodymium motor. Advanced computer modelling was used in their development to control dispersion and frequency response across the audio band.
