F1 Fractal 3m pair

The Townshend F1 Fractal™ is a hand-built speaker cable supplied here as a 3m pair. It is designed to provide a neutral connection between amplifier and speakers, using Townshend’s Fractal™ treatment and impedance-matched cable geometry.

The F1 Fractal™ follows 40 years of Townshend development and is the company’s first new speaker cable in 14 years. The 3m pair is the stated price configuration. Please ask about other lengths.

Two Fractal™ treated pure copper strip conductors are separated by ultra-thin PTFE insulation without adhesive. The conductors are surrounded by flexible polyurethane polymer for vibration damping, then enclosed in a strong flexible conduit and hard-wearing woven polyester braid.

Each end contains electronics for stable operation with all amplifiers, together with radio-frequency interference reduction circuitry. These components are housed in a machined solid aluminium capsule, which also provides the transition between the twin strips and the wire tails.

The Townshend F1 Fractal speaker cable can be terminated with lockable banana plugs, spades or the connector of your choice. It is non-directional, allows unequal lengths to be used, requires no burn-in and is available in lengths of up to 10 metres.

Rafael Todes, violinist with the Allegri String Quartet and HiFi journalist, described the cable’s effect when used with a Hi-Res recording of Brahms’ 2nd Serenade. He reported less smudge and dirt, tighter and cleaner bass, and greater musical intelligibility. He also noted a 3-dimensional soundscape in which the orchestral sections and the positions of individual instruments could be heard clearly. On returning to other cables, he found the soundstage flatter and less clearly layered, while the F1 Fractal removed what he considered the greatest obstruction in his system.
