Epic XL 3m Speaker Cable

The Chord Cables Epic XL 3m pair uses separate shielding for its positive and negative conductors, helping reduce noise and preserve separation and definition. The speaker cables use XLPE insulation, with conductors secured beneath high-density braid and foil shielding before termination at The Chord Company’s UK factory.

Epic XL combines elements of the Epic and Signature Reference/XL speaker cables. A specially selected soft PVC internal jacket positions the shielding correctly and helps minimise mechanical noise. Each set of conductors is protected by a high-density braid and foil shield, which is covered by a translucent outer jacket selected to reduce unwanted mechanical noise. Every set of Epic XL is built to order at The Chord Company. The conductors are twisted together and clamped in place before being terminated with either banana or spade connectors. Separate shielding for the positive and negative conductors in each speaker cable run gives Epic XL a more refined and coherent presentation, with clear micro-dynamics, detail, separation and definition for instruments and voices.

Source components and loudspeakers continue to evolve, and levels of resolution once associated with high-end audio are now available in more affordable designs. This can also make cable performance more apparent. Epic XL uses separate shields for each conductor to improve neutrality and reduce noise, while providing a larger, more immersive soundstage and renewed engagement with an existing music collection.

Epic XL, previously known as Epic Reference, used PTFE insulation. Before Taylon® became available, PTFE was The Chord Company’s preferred material, despite its high cost and performance advantages.

Material technology continues to develop, and alternatives to PTFE are now available. The high cost of Taylon® prevents its use in the Epic range, but an XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene) version was identified that, following extensive listening tests, proved clearly better than PTFE.

Every set of Epic XL speaker cable is built to order and terminated at The Chord Company’s UK factory with ChordOhmic 4mm banana plugs or ChordOhmic spade connectors.
