Dragon ZERO 3m

The AudioQuest Dragon ZERO 3m, a speaker cable, uses solid Perfect-Surface Silver conductors and ZERO-Tech to allow uncompressed current transfer while avoiding characteristic-impedance mismatches. Its 72v Dielectric-Bias System with Level-X RF Noise-Trap insulation draws induced radio-frequency noise from the cable, while cold-welded pure Red Copper spades or bananas complete the terminations.

Solid Perfect-Surface-Silver (PSS) Conductors

Perfect-Surface Technology applied to extremely pure silver is used to provide clarity and dynamic contrast. Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) is AudioQuest’s highest-quality metal. Solid conductors prevent interaction between strands, which is a significant source of cable distortion. The purity of PSS minimises distortion caused by grain boundaries within metal conductors, reducing harshness and improving clarity compared with OFHC, OCC, 8N and other copper conductors. ZERO-Tech provides no defined characteristic impedance.

Carbon and PSS Silver Based Linear Noise-Dissipation

RF noise is present from sources including satellites, cellular towers and Bluetooth. AudioQuest’s Linear Noise-Dissipation system uses multiple shields, absorptive carbon, direction-controlled metal and Perfect-Surface Silver, which provides an RF-conducting shield-drain, to prevent RF noise from affecting amplifier performance.

ZERO-Tech

The complete elimination of characteristic-impedance mismatches between a cable and its source and load requires the cable to have no fixed characteristic-impedance value. ZERO-Tech achieves this by removing interaction between the insulation, or dielectric, and the conductors. This enables uncompressed current transfer, leaves transient current unrestricted and linearises RF Noise-Dissipation across the octaves.

Insulation also functions as a dielectric and acts as a shunt filter. Biasing the dielectric correctly linearises this filter, improving the cable’s wide-bandwidth ability to dissipate induced noise. The Level-X Noise-Trap in the DBS pack draws RF noise out of the cable, further reducing misbehaviour in the connected audio circuit.

Terminations

Dragon cables are cold-welded to AudioQuest’s highly pure Red Copper spades or bananas. The bare copper is suspended in a vat of pure silver rather than tumbled in a lower-grade solution. AudioQuest speaker breakouts and plug casings are non-metallic, preventing them from inducing RF noise into the conductors.

Bi-Wiring

Where possible, using separate cables for the treble and bass sections of a speaker considerably reduces distortion. Bi-wiring keeps the large magnetic fields associated with bass energy away from the treble cable, allowing upper frequencies to travel along a less magnetically disturbed path.

AudioQuest Bass and GND-Tech, its patented Ground-Noise-Dissipation system, draw RF energy away from the amplifier’s output. When correctly implemented, bi-wiring provides a cost-effective way to improve performance for the same or less money. With GND-Tech, the benefit of bi-wiring is more pronounced.

Dragon BASS cable is intended for the bass input of a bi-wireable speaker, used with a Dragon ZERO on the treble input. A bi-wire COMBO, with BASS and ZERO cables joined at the amplifier, is generally the most convenient arrangement. For tri-wiring, use BASS cables on the midrange and bass inputs.

Caution: Do not bi-wire with 2 ZERO cables. 2 or more ZERO cables in parallel can create a very high-frequency resonant peak, or ringing, resulting in poor sound. With a bi-wired speaker, use ZERO only with a BASS cable. Otherwise, use a single ZERO cable with jumpers.
