DA2
The McIntosh DA2 handles high-resolution digital audio, including native DSD512 and DXD up to 384kHz, while HDMI ARC brings compatible television sound through a McIntosh system with volume and lip-sync control. Its Quad Balanced, 8-channel, 32-bit Digital-to-Analogue Converter supports this processing, with coaxial and optical inputs decoding up to 24-bit/192kHz.

The McIntosh DA2 is a digital audio module for processing digital audio. It is supplied as standard in the C53 and C2700 Preamplifiers, and provides those units with current digital audio capabilities. McIntosh products fitted with the DA1 can be upgraded to the DA2. Compatible models are the MA9000, MA8900, MA7200, MA5300, MAC7200 and C49.
Alongside the 2 coaxial, 2 optical, 1 USB and 1 MCT inputs also found on the DA1, the DA2 adds an audio-only HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC) connection. This connects to a compatible HDMI ARC output on a television, routing TV sound through a home stereo system. ARC provides two-way communication between the television and the McIntosh unit, including volume control and lip-sync functions to keep audio and video synchronised. Dolby® and DTS® multi-channel audio formats are supported and converted to 2-channel audio for playback through the connected unit. With CEC communication enabled on both devices, the TV remote can control the power and volume of the McIntosh unit.
The USB input supports native playback up to DSD512, compared with the DA1 limit of DSD256. This is enabled by a Quad Balanced, 8-channel, 32-bit Digital-to-Analogue Converter (DAC), which also provides improved dynamic range and total harmonic distortion compared with the DA1.
USB playback supports DXD up to 384kHz. The coaxial and optical inputs decode digital music up to 24-bit/192kHz. A proprietary MCT input provides a secure, custom DSD connection for high definition audio from SACDs when the DA2 is paired with a McIntosh MCT series SACD/CD Transport.
Because of the technical nature of the McIntosh DA2 upgrade, installation must be carried out by a qualified trained professional at an Authorised McIntosh Dealer or Authorised McIntosh Service Agency.
