Sonus Faber

Concertino

The Sonus Faber Concertino, a two-way bookshelf speaker system, uses a cork chassis to limit internal resonances and reduce the need for damping material. Its 1" silk-dome tweeter, 5" long-throw paper-pulp midwoofer and phase-coherent crossover support more accurate phase alignment and a more defined three-dimensional sound image.

The Sonus Faber Concertino is a 2-way bookshelf speaker system that combines the brand’s Natural Sound philosophy with a trapezoidal cabinet design, solid walnut, cork and plant-based leather alternatives. Its construction brings together established Italian craftsmanship and newer materials, with the aim of maintaining the acoustic minimalism of Sonus faber’s origins.

The cabinet’s central chassis is made from cork, which can be moulded cleanly into the required design. This helps limit internal resonances and reduces the amount of damping material required inside the cabinet. The material can adapt to the different requirements of each speaker and has also become relevant to collections including Suprema and Sonetto. Concertino is the first Sonus faber speaker to use cork in combination with a midwoofer.

The side walls are formed from solid walnut. In addition to its acoustic properties, the ribbed surface gives the cabinet structure and rigidity, taking the place of internal bracing. The cabinet retains the historic trapezoidal shape associated with Sonus faber speaker design.

Concertino introduces a plant-based leather developed by the Italian start-up Ohoskin. This material covers the front baffle and cork structure and is produced from derivatives of Sicilian oranges and prickly pears. It is one of the first non-fossil alternatives to leather, providing a material suited to audio equipment while reducing reliance on fossil-based materials.

The driver complement consists of a 1" silk dome tweeter with D.A.D. technology and a 5" long-throw paper pulp midwoofer with an organic basket. The organic basket is one of Sonus faber’s signature design elements.

Its crossover uses a simple, phase-coherent design to improve phase alignment and produce a more defined, three-dimensional sound image. Concertino extends Sonus faber’s established two-way speaker format through a combination of natural materials, a compact cabinet structure and current acoustic design.
