The Ortofon Cadenza Red is a high-end moving-coil cartridge with a nude fine line stylus and cylindrical aluminium cantilever. Its stylus tip radius is r/R 8/40µm, allowing the diamond to read a significant amount of the recorded information.

The cartridge uses cobalt-iron pole pieces, new improved winding processes on the armature and an extruded aluminium housing. Its internal coils are made from 6NX (99.9999%) pure silver wire for signal generation, while the improved armature winding process provides better channel balance for stereo imaging.

Ortofon uses a colour-tier structure for the Cadenza Series, with Red, Blue, Bronze, Black and Mono (White) variants available for different budgets and tastes. Cadenza comes from the Italian word for cadence, referring to a section of a concert in which the orchestra stops playing and the soloist performs alone in free time without a strict, regular pulse. A cadenza may be written or improvised, and is usually the most elaborate and virtuosic passage played by the solo instrument during the piece.

As the introductory model in the range, the Cadenza Red produces an open and dynamic sound with a touch of warmth. Compared with the Cadenza Blue, it is more relaxed, homogeneous and moderately dynamic, with space and depth in the stereo image. The series design and construction allow it to perform beyond the ranges that came before it.
