A7.2
The Spendor A7.2, a floorstanding loudspeaker, uses a new 27mm soft-dome tweeter and redesigned port to broaden high-frequency response while reducing bass resonances. Its refined crossover improves driver integration, stereo imaging and phase coherence, while the easy-to-drive 8ohm load supports compatibility with a wide range of amplifiers.

The Spendor A7.2 is a floorstanding loudspeaker designed and manufactured in the UK. It builds on the A7 platform and forms the flagship model in Spendor’s new A-Line. Key revisions include a new 27mm soft-dome tweeter, a redesigned port and a refined crossover network.
The redesigned port shortens the airflow path, reducing resonances and interference to support deeper, more controlled and accurate bass reproduction. It retains the well-proven 4th generation Spendor linear-flow port, which allows flexible placement close to walls or furniture, as well as in smaller listening rooms.
At the centre of the A7.2 is Spendor’s 18cm bass-mid drive unit, incorporating materials developed for the Spendor D7 loudspeaker. Its EP77 polymer cone is combined with new surround and suspension materials designed for thermal and mechanical stability. The drive unit provides dynamic capability and low-level linearity.
The new soft-dome, wide-surround, rear-chambered 27mm tweeter operates with a lower crossover frequency, extending the frequency range and improving coherence. Its high-frequency output is designed to integrate with the rest of the audio spectrum. The A7 design also uses a 22mm wide-surround tweeter, combining the extended frequency response of a small diaphragm with the low-frequency characteristics of a larger diaphragm. Its diaphragm profile provides a smooth, extended high-frequency response across a wide listening area, with stable low-distortion performance over a broad frequency range.
A completely re-engineered crossover improves driver integration, stereo imaging and phase coherence, while maintaining a natural and precise presentation. Precision-wound, high-linearity tapped inductors help avoid distortion and allow fine adjustment of the frequency and phase response needed for a coherent, balanced sound.
Spendor’s Dynamic Damping system addresses unwanted cabinet energy. Small, low-mass constrained polymer dampers are positioned at key energy interface points, where they convert spurious cabinet energy into inaudible heat. This avoids the stored energy and slow release associated with rigid, high-density cabinet panels that are mass-damped to reduce cabinet talk, helping to preserve timing and an open, engaging sound.
Internal wiring uses high-grade silver-plated pure copper conductors with a halogen-free dielectric. High-linearity, audio-grade capacitors and an easy-to-drive 8ohm load provide compatibility with all good amplifiers and cables.
Each cabinet has 4 machined steel stabiliser inserts in its base. Secured directly into the main cabinet structure, they reduce micro-movement and flexing in the plinth and feet, which can blur fine detail and affect ambience. The stabilisers also support the stability and clean appearance of the slim cabinets.
The linear cabinet form is available in 4 finishes: natural oak, dark walnut, black ash veneer and satin white lacquer. Each cabinet has a contrasting black plinth, and an optional grille is available. The compact proportions allow the Spendor A7.2 to fit into most homes and suit different room décors.
