The EAR Yoshino 912 is a valve preamplifier designed for studio playback, with 4 line, 2 balanced and 2 phono stage inputs. It combines a rich feature set with high-grade sound and a format suitable for domestic systems. Professional details include dual analogue VU meters and solid aluminium handles, while the front facia and knobs are made from brushed anodised aluminium in silver or black. The controls are designed for durability.

The 912 uses dual analogue VU meters built to specified ballistic standards for full music studio use. They show the signal passing through the preamplifier, allowing the gain to be reduced to compensate for variations between sources. This is useful with over-compressed recordings while retaining their dynamic range. Phonostage gain can be calibrated to -6dB or -12dB before the signal is passed directly to the audio transformers.

Designed as EAR’s highest-performing valve preamplifier, the EAR Yoshino 912 uses 5 PCC88 valves. 3 are assigned to the phono stage and 2 to the line level section. Using the same valve type throughout simplifies servicing and replacement, with reliability and longevity treated as important considerations alongside performance.

There are 6 output transformers inside the 912, arranged as 3 pairs for the line, balanced and phono inputs. Each transformer is dedicated to its specific function, allowing the line, balanced and phono circuits to operate according to their individual requirements.

System connection is provided by 4 line, 2 balanced and 2 phono stage inputs. The preamplifier also has 2 line outputs and 2 balanced outputs, allowing audio from the source to be routed directly to the rest of a hi-fi system.
