The EAR Yoshino 8L6 is a valve integrated amplifier with a push-pull output stage, push-pull driver stage, pure Class A operation and low negative feedback. Its high-quality output transformer is designed in-house, while the long valve life keeps replacement costs modest. The 8L6 is intended for both demanding audiophile systems and professional studio monitoring.
The EAR Yoshino 8L6 can operate either as an integrated amplifier or as separate preamplifier and power amplifier sections. A rear-panel switch marked ‘Pre/power split on’ selects the operating mode. In integrated amplifier mode, the front-panel source selector chooses between the 5 inputs on the rear panel, with no connection required between the ‘Pre out’ and ‘Power amp in’ sockets.
When used in pre-main mode, the passive preamplifier section is disconnected internally from the power amplifier section. An external connection is then required between the ‘Pre out’ and ‘Power amp in’ sockets. This allows a signal processor such as an equaliser to be connected between the preamplifier and power amplifier sections.
The ‘Pre out’ sockets remain active when the EAR Yoshino 8L6 is operating in integrated mode. This permits a second 8L6, or another amplifier with similar gain, to be used as a slave amplifier for bi-amping.
