The EAR 899 combines a power amplifier with a 6-input passive preamplifier in a separate section of the chassis. Its power amplifier circuit is based on the EAR 890, while retaining the flexibility to operate as a standalone power amplifier.
The EAR 890 developed from the EAR 834 integrated amplifier, increasing output to 70W through the use of new output valves and circuit changes. The EAR 899 uses the same power amplifier topology and adds true balanced inputs, with bridged or parallel mono operation available. In bridged or parallel mono mode, it can deliver 140W of Class A output.
Each channel uses 2 pairs of KT90 valves. Construction includes a 19-inch rack-mounting front panel made from thick, rigid anodised aluminium, representing a new approach for this range. The EAR Yoshino 899 brings the clarity, control and frequency extension associated with the EAR 834 to systems requiring greater power, while allowing further system upgrades.
