555 PS

The Naim 555 PS is a dedicated power supply for the CD555 CD player, and can also be used with the NDS and NDX network players, the HDX hard disk player/server, the DAC digital-to-analogue converter and the CDX2 CD player. With the 555 PS DR connected, voices and instruments are presented with greater clarity and naturalness, perceived dynamic range increases, and timing, including the fundamental rhythm and accuracy of music, is brought into sharper focus.

At the centre of the Naim 555 PS is a transformer approximately 40 percent larger than the one used in the XPS power supply. It has 5 separate windings that provide 7 regulated supply voltages, including a dedicated output for the CD555 clock circuitry. Its design draws on decades of Naim Audio development and work focused on power supply performance.

Naim updated the 555 PS in 2012 following a 2-year project to develop a new discrete regulator, or DR, for its power supplies. The revised 555 PS DR incorporates this regulator alongside changes to the wire routing, mechanical decoupling and internal layout. Naim Audio developed these changes through intensive listening tests, with the stated result of clearer musical communication and greater enjoyment.
